 I grew up in Lincoln Towers, on the upper west side of Manhattan. It was a huge modern housing complex with terraces that were alternately painted orange or blue. I lived on the 19th floor and had a blue terrace. It was monolithic and a little confusing. Flash forward to my adult self, going to the Galápagos Islands, where the iguanas stack themselves high, one on top of the other. They don’t care if they are related, sick, or even dead. They just hang out like that, intimate yet neutral. You go back, you go forward: the song remains the same.
