The intention of this artwork was to capture the negative emotions and feelings of anxiety (left), fear (middle), and pain (right). I wanted to have a focus and emphasis on the eyes of the people depicted because, I feel, that is where most emotion is shown. I also emphasized the different hand positions depicted in each emotion. I made this piece in the summer of 2021 at my school’s (Convent High School) Portfolio Production camp. During this camp, I spend a lot of time focusing on capturing emotion in artwork while developing my skills as an artist. To create this piece, I used charcoal and blending tools to create shadows and highlights, making the images seem more realistic and three-dimensional.
