Cyrus Penn is a 17 year old student at Ruth Asawa SOTA. Ever since he could remember he’s been infatuated with how color interacts with the world. His own art style has been deeply influenced by the colors and fluidity of the cartoons he grew up with. Cyrus often uses oil painting, color pencil, or digital art. Regardless of medium, he makes sure to convey a strong sense of color, value, fluidity, and texture in his artwork. As he moves into adulthood, Cyrus hopes to turn his love for painting and illustration into a career. As a disabled and transgender man, Cyrus’s art has been influenced by his own mental health journey. His pieces often convey personal or darker meanings to reflect his own experiences. Viewers being able to find their own deeper meaning behind each of his pieces, whether it was his original intention or not, is very important to the young artist. In a world where mental health, gender, sexuality, and disability are stigmatized, Cyrus hopes to represent them through his artwork.
