While Ethnic Studies has been offered at Mission High School for many years, this is the first year it has been made available to Newcomer students. Newcomer students have recently arrived in the country and are learning English. As a part of our study of agency and change, we reflected on our own migrations and conducted research on migrations that are different from our own. We studied migration from Ghana, El Salvador, Vietnam, China, Syria and The Great Migration. These murals represent the agency of migrants, the challenges the face in migrating and the way they transform communities.
